HANAMI

Hanami Spots

When the cherry blossoms start blooming, many Japanese think about "Hanami."
'Hana' means flower, and 'mi' means seeing or viewing to be more exact.
In Japan 'flower' sometimes means cherry blossoms respectively.
Thus, "hanami" means admiring the beauty of the cherry blossoms.
Around this time all the media give information about
where and when it starts to bloom in each area.
People love to go blossom viewing and to have an outdoor party under cherry trees
with families in daytime and with friends or coworkers at night.
We spread blue plastic canvases or straw mats under the blossoms and
enjoy ourselves with eating, drinking, or singing.
Recently some people enjoy outdoor karaoke
though this may cause some annoyance to surrounding people.

Beautiful day, beautiful air, beautiful cherry blossoms !

Sometimes securing a good spot is the job for fresh starters in the companies.
At popular places, they fence off the good spots with ropes
in the morning or the day before
and take turns to stay to guard the spot until the night party starts.
